Planning Your Order Around Owl Hours

Knowing when we run is only half the picture. How smoothly a late-night drop goes also depends on the time you order, where you are in the city, and what Portland is doing that night. A few habits make a real difference.

Order before the rush, not during it

The busiest stretch usually builds as restaurants and bars get going and people settle in for the evening. If you already know you'll want something later, ordering a little before that rush gives your request a better place in the queue. During the quieter hours after the midnight wave, routes tend to be lighter, but some kitchens and shops close earlier than we do. Check the menu to see what is still available late in the shift.

Leave room near closing time

Orders placed in the last half hour of a shift are the hardest to fit in, especially for addresses at the far edge of our coverage. If you're ordering late, look at the delivery zones first. A drop across the river or up into the hills takes longer than one close to the core, and our drivers need time to finish safely before the shift ends.

Weather, events and long weekends

Portland's rainy months, the occasional ice or snow, and big nights downtown can all slow traffic and raise demand at once. In bad weather, expect longer waits. If the roads become unsafe, we may pause or shorten service, and we would rather do that than put drivers at risk. On holiday weekends and the nights before them, the hours above still apply, but orders come in earlier and keep coming, so planning ahead helps.

Help your driver find you

At night, buildings are harder to spot, door numbers are dark, and gate codes matter. Turning on a porch light, adding clear access notes and keeping your phone nearby can shave minutes off a drop. If you have a question about a particular night's schedule, the FAQ covers the most common ones.
