At Night Owl Deliveries, we appreciate your support and want to clarify our tipping policy to enhance your experience with us.
Tipping is a way to acknowledge the hard work of our couriers who deliver your orders late at night. Here are some key points about our tip policy:
- Voluntary Tipping: Tipping is completely voluntary and based on your satisfaction with our service.
- Recommended Tip Amount: While there is no set amount, we suggest a tip of 15-20% of your total order value as a guideline.
- Cash or Digital Tips: You can tip in cash directly to your courier or add a tip through our app during the checkout process.
- Support for Couriers: Tips go directly to our couriers, helping them earn a fair wage for their efforts during late-night hours.
Your generosity helps us maintain a team of dedicated couriers who are committed to providing you with exceptional service. Thank you for choosing Night Owl Deliveries!
When to Consider Tipping a Little Extra
A percentage of the order is a handy starting point, but late-night deliveries aren't all alike. Some situations ask more of a courier than a short hop across a quiet neighbourhood street, and many customers like to reflect that when they decide what to give.
Conditions that make a run harder
- Weather: Portland's long rainy season, and the occasional ice or snow, make riding and driving slower and less pleasant after dark. A courier who keeps your food dry through a downpour has earned some recognition.
- Distance: Orders heading toward the edges of our delivery zones take more time and fuel than nearby drops.
- Access: Apartment complexes with gate codes, unlit entrances, several flights of stairs or confusing building numbers all add minutes to a run.
- Large or awkward orders: Several bags, drink carriers or a group order for a late study session or shift break take extra care to carry safely.
Small orders, fair tips
A strict percentage can leave a very small total producing a tip of only a few cents, even though the courier made the same trip. Some customers set a personal minimum for small orders so the tip still reflects the time spent on the road.
Helping your courier without spending more
Tipping isn't the only way to support the people bringing your order. Clear delivery notes help a lot: which door to use, whether a porch light will be on, and any gate or buzzer details. Keeping your phone nearby in case the courier needs to call, and turning on an outside light, makes a late arrival quicker and safer for everyone.
If something went wrong with an order, please tell us rather than leaving no tip. Plenty of problems, such as a kitchen delay or a missing item, are outside the courier's control. You can reach us through the contact page, and common questions about orders and timing are answered in our FAQ.
